Elementary Subject Matter Preparation Certificate
Another pathway to teaching
A different pathway to careers in elementary school teaching is provided by the Elementary Subject Matter Preparation Certificate. The ESM Certificate is a package of coursework that the undergraduate student combines with the required curriculum of any major at CSUSM.
Like the ESM and ICP Options in the Liberal Studies major, the ESM Certificate includes all the General Education requirements of the baccalaureate degree. Completion of the certificate curriculum prepares students in the subject areas of the K-8 curriculum. Completion of the ESM Certificate serves as preparation for Post-Baccalaureate Multiple Subject credential programs.
Students interested in the ESM Certificate should consult their major advisors; high unit-count majors are less suitable for combination with the certificate, because together they result in more than the 120 units typically required for a Bachelor of Arts degree.
